"Thank you very much for your prompt, positive response. I really appreciate it. You don't know how much I enjoy this game. It's very exhilarating. You may not know how we feel because you're on middle ground but it gets to a point where I sometimes have dreams (or nightmares:-) about my team's decisions and our competitors. It has been a great learning experience for me and my teammates. "

"I would like to point out that this simulation is the best part of my day. I really wish I had a laptop so that I could play continuously. It is wonderful and exciting to me and much more informative than any lecture or text could come close to - with all due respect, of course. I just thought I'd let you know. Thanks again. "

"I would like to tell you that playing in the Marketplace has proven useful (which was hard to determine while I was actually playing the game!).

As a summer marketing intern at a international company, many of the aspects of the game have come to life as I work. For example, each week we receive industry e-newsletters, updates, and several industry trade magazines that hold tons of info on our customers and what things are happening with them. Also, any decision marketing people make affects all other aspects of business--sales, accounting, production, etc. Each functional area of this business is just as intertwined as was the case in the simulation.

Now, I am happy to have taken your class. "

"As participants in the international Marketplace simulation competition January – April 2003 we have got a good chance to apply our knowledge, which we have learned from books in the classroom, in a 'real' business world.

According to our experiences, the world becomes more international. No big company can only depend on and succeed in a local market. More and more companies chose to go overseas to either produce or extend as well as secure the business. It is so important for us now to: Think globally, cooperate globally, and organize internationally. "

"I used the Marketplace simulation last spring and I have to say it was great - but the real selling point is your superb technical support. The entire tech-support team understands the importance of customer service in real time. "

"I wanted to let you know how much your Marketplace simulation helped me during my dissertation process. I was a PhD student at the University of Maryland last summer when Dr. Joyce Russell, a professor at Maryland and the coordinator of the Marketplace simulation for the incoming first-year MBA students, suggested that Marketplace might be a perfect task to use for my dissertation data collection.

My dissertation examined emergent leadership and collective efficacy in small teams facing a pressure-filled situations; as you can imagine, Marketplace provided a perfect fit. It provided the perfect mix of business strategy issues and team-building challenges in a contained environment, all characteristics that allowed me to thoroughly examine my research questions.

Thanks again. "

In my opinion, the Marketplace simulation was the single most valuable learning experience in my entire MBA training. It helped pull together my finance, accounting, marketing, and operations knowledge into a coherent picture of how a business operates. Best of all, I came away with some strong insights into time-based competition that I could incorporate immediately into my present job.

"I wanted to say again how impressive your simulation game is. I have played such a game twice before and this one is light years ahead of those. No comparison. "

"Marketplace is the most thorough business simulation out today. It requires the combination of management, finance, accounting and marketing skills to be successful in the game. Competition is fierce and fast, so one must watch both their own products and the products of their competitors to keep the majority of the market share. The Marketplace is the closest simulation to real life that I have seen. It prepared me to make the decisions required to perform in the short run, while making the long term goals clearer and more attainable."

Feedback from EMBA Students at Florida International University

"The simulation is a real 'compendium' of the program. Finance, Marketing and Manufacturing decisions are involved in every single class. Supporting material (Books) are also very good. The interaction of the class is also an incredible learning experience, because of the emotional reactions that the game generates among the participants."

"The course touched on all the issues that we addressed throughout the entire program. One change: make the class the entire day so that the simulation could run through 16 quarters. It would enhance the experience."

"Key learning: Everything!!!!! Learned more about finance than in the actual finance course... There should be a finance simulation course. One change: make it go all the way to the 12th quarter -- full day."

"This course was one of the better ones. The only thing I would change is to allow this course to be the only one for a quarter. This way we would be able to play for 16 quarters instead of eight. This course does require outside meetings with the team. One change: let it be the only course for a quarter."

"It [the class] brought together everything we had learned during the previous semesters and gave us the closest classroom experience to the business world. Important themes are too numerous to mention. One change: I only wish we had the time to make decisions for 10-12 quarters. The 8 quarters were very educational, but certain strategies would require several more quarters of simulation."

" You will learn about marketing; about making tactical decisions, organizing your team, assigning responsibilities; about analyzing your market, designing brands, building plants, producing inventory; about advertising media; about evaluating research; about preparing a business plan. All of the foregoing and more, taught by playing the game known as Marketplace. You will even solicit venture capital.

When you have finished the course, you will have simulated the experiences of an entrepreneur who faces and deals with all the vexations and victories of running a business. But, more importantly, because it was an interesting, enjoyable, engrossing challenge, you will have been truly educated in business management."

"The game presents very interesting problems that a student would not otherwise be faced with in a given textbook class. By presenting these problems within a game, the student is challenged to compete with others in the class as well as with the game's strategies. This was the most interesting (and time consuming!) class we have taken in our graduate studies."

"To be honest, this has been my best and most interesting business class I have taken my entire college career. I have never felt like I did so well in any of my other classes. And I also thought that I would never like a business class until I entered your class and had the opportunity to use Marketplace.

"One major lesson is that many things happen unexpectedly, but how you pick up the pieces and react is the key to saving the day. We have had a number of issues come up during our run that have caught us completely off guard. Major demand fluctuations, false advertising claims, money shortages, and tough venture capitalists. It is precisely these events that have made this game so useful. It makes the team look at different alternatives and play devils advocate, just to give all options their due. Sometimes, what we were originally taught did not seem like a viable option, then it turned out to be the best one."

"The business game provided us with opportunity to experience a business and manufacturing environment that was like a real business situation. Moreover, this business game gave us the chance for teamwork. It helped us learn how to communicate and cooperate with others, balance the workload, and manage contradiction. We also learned how to accept the ideas of others. To conclude, it was a valuable experience for preparing me to join a business after graduation."

"The game gave me an idea how to run a successful business by maintaining the business in the changing world. Starting a business is difficult, but maintaining it is even more difficult. The most valuable knowledge gained from the game is the development of the analytical mind. We learned to analyze the key points that make a company a winner or loser. We learned how to tell what kind of decisions lead to success or failure. In short, we learned skills that will help us avoid to falling into traps."

"At the International Student Science Conference in Bratislava, we presented our student science project: 'Contribution of market simulations to the global understanding of business.' The core of this work was our pioneer participation in the Global Marketplace, analyzing its benefits and the possibilities of its use in the academic sphere and studying market simulations in general. It was a great success, and our work was awarded first place in it's category (Applied Informatics)."

"I really enjoyed the marketplace simulation. It was a pretty fun class. You got to make all of the choices for your company. Some of the choices that you had to make included: product design, financing, marketing, HR, expansion, and looking at results after each week to decide what to change in order to stay ahead of the competition. I really recommend this simulation; it was quite an unique experience."

"I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for the program you put on for us at Iowa last week. I too am one of those guys that have survived in a career without intimate knowledge of finance and accounting. The Marketplace program helped me see how it all fits together and which piece of the big puzzle I have effect over. I know our team learned a lot about each other as well as learning from the other teams."
