Simulation offers taste of real life to students
Marketplace Simulations’ worldwide appeal is detailed
in an article by Keith Russell, which appeared in the February 14, 2004,
edition of the Nashville Tennessean.
Russell interviews Marketplace creator Ernie Cadotte and several players
and instructors who participated in the Marketplace Fall 2003 Global Competition.
While the participants explain the simulation’s energizing and even habit-forming
appeal, Cadotte and the instructors emphasize the pedagogical value of
having students build and run businesses in a virtual game that expertly
mimics real-world market dynamics. Through these interviews, Russell illuminates
the value to students of participating in a truly international competition,
from which they learn that different cultures have different ways of thinking
about and doing business.
