Q: In the current quarter it won’t let me hire sales staff or set an advertising budget? A: These decisions are not available until the next quarter.
Q: How do I change my target markets in the current quarter? A: In the <Additional Information and Decisions> section labeled <Goals and Strategy> <Target Markets>.
Q: Where do I enter the company name? A: In the <Headquarters> section under <Company Name>.
Q: Where can I set the segment priority for manufacturing?
A: In the <Target and Replenish Point> section.
Q: I made changes in the previous quarter, but our decisions did not show up after processing? A: Be sure to click <Calculate>, and then <Save> in all decision modification areas. Q: Where do I enter Brand name? A: The first entry box, in the top-center of <Design New Brand> area.
Q: If I delete my old brand(s) and enter a new brand(s) do I retain previously created demand from older brand recognition? A: You do not retain previously created demand, but if you keep at least 60% of the previous brand name you will retain the brand recognition, which will help increase demand.
Q: The game suggested that I schedule my brand for sale, how do I do that? A: Place a check mark next to the brand in the section labeled <Pricing> <Price and Priority>.
Q: How do I delete one of my brands? A: If the brand was created in the current quarter then you may go to
<Delete New Brand> in the <Additional information and decisions>
drop down list, if it was created in a previous quarter then you cannot
delete it. You can discontinue previously created brands by removing them
from sales offices, removing any advertising for that brand and setting
the target and replenish points to zero. This will effectively stop production
and sales of that brand. Q: I don't see an option to compare brands?
A: In the current quarter go to <Competitor's Brands> in the <Brand
Design> section, it will then let you choose any of your own brands
as well as the competition's, and review the components in each brand. A: The game uses the Balanced Scorecard to rank teams. However, your
professor may choose to use different criteria. Q: How do I access data from previous quarters? A: Use the <Previous Quarter> and <Next Quarter> icons located
at the top menu. Please make sure you are in the current quarter before
attempting to modify decisions. Q: I am in the current quarter and want to change
company name, responsibilities, goals, etc. Where can I find this information?
A: In the <Additional Information and Decisions> section near the
top-center of the screen. Q: Can more than one person work on the same team's
decisions? A: Yes, they must sign up for the same team. Q: Can two people on the same team work on the decisions
at the same time? A: Yes, but only one person is allowed to modify the team's decisions
at a time. Q: I am in my decisions what should I do? A: Please click on the decisions items list on the left side, the decisions
run from top to bottom. Q: Will my decisions be saved when I exit? A: Yes, after <Save> button is clicked then everything in that
section is saved. Q: My teammate is shown to have the decisions locked,
but he is not in the game. What should we do?
A: Contact either your instructor or the Marketplace technical support
to unlock the decisions. Q: I was changing the decisions and then accidentally
closed the browser. A: Please sign in to the game again and then choose <Sign Off>.
This will let the Marketplace web server know that the connection has
been closed. Q: One student has hit the <Wrap-up> key inadvertently,
before this quarter’s decisions were finished. Does this have any impact
on the team's decisions? A: The team can return to their game and finish their decisions and then
wrap up again when complete. When they try to modify decisions the system
will notify them that the decisions have been wrapped up, and ask them
if they would like to unwrap. Q: For the ad benefit "New and Improved" it says
that it can be claimed only once. Is this once per quarter, for the entire
simulation, once per brand, or some other condition? A: Once per brand for the duration of the game. Q: For the business plan, is the pro-forma cash
flow through Q8 or Q12? A: Quarter 8 by default, but your instructor may require a different
period. Q: What needs to be included in our Business Plan. A: Please review Chapter 9 of the "Professor Help" entitled
"Preparing the Tactical Plan". Q: When designing a new brand, if I select as many
components as possible not all the components are saved. A: The maximum number of components per brand is 20. Anything after that
is dropped by the software. Q: Is there a way to rename a brand? Not redesign,
just rename the brand? A: The only way to rename would be to use the redesign function, but
then only change the name, however this would cost you the same as designing
a new brand. Q: If we order R&D, will we be able to use the
resulting components on all of our current brands, or would we have to
choose only one brand? A: You can apply the new components to any new brands you design, and
to current brands by modifying them. Q: In the early stages of the simulation, each team
was asked to select two market segments. Some teams are now selling to
other segments as well. Does this have any impact on the scorecard, will
results from the 3rd market segment be taken into account in the evaluation? A: Only as overall income. The targeted segments are used for certain
criteria, and the total sales are used for another. So sales in any segment
helps the overall score, but sales in the targeted segments are more important
for the balanced scorecard. Q: We are opening sales offices in a region where
we have no sales offices yet this quarter. We are also wanting to advertise
in this region as well, but the program is not allowing this. Do we have
to wait until the quarter after we open offices to advertise or should
we be able to do this now? A: You will be able to advertise in this region from the next quarter. Q: How can we evaluate which cities are most profitable,
and calculate our sales per salesperson within each city? A: Go to any decision screen, you will find the pull down menu labeled
<Display Info in New Window> scroll down and choose the option <Detailed
Brand Demand>. Q: The cumulative balanced scorecard for each team
says performance will be based on the last four quarters of play, but
currently indicates only 3 quarter numbers 3, 4 and 5. Is this an error? A: We keep a moving average of the cumulative scorecard. As you move
forward, the earlier quarters will drop off. Thus, when you get to quarter
8, it will be based upon quarters 4, 5, 6, and 7. Right now, there are
only 3 quarters for which you have data, thus the score is only based
upon the last 3 quarters. Q: Now that regional advertising has come into play,
is there any negative impact from reducing local ads in favor of regional
ads? A: There is no negative impact if you switch from local to regional.
Regional media is actually more effective in reaching a target segment,
however, it is more expensive. The costs come down as you add more cities
in a region because you divide the regional cost by the number of cities
in which you have a sales office. Q: Because demand is seasonal, I just wanted to
verify that Q8 in the market simulation was actually the 2nd
year Q4 (Oct-Dec)? A: Yes quarter 4 and 8 are the 1st and 2nd year’s
October - December quarter. Q: I received an emergency loan and now need to
pay off the debt to the Loan Shark. I cannot find a section to repay the
emergency loan within the game. How do I tell the game to repay the loan? A: The Loan Shark is repaid from your account automatically. He will
take the amount he is owed if you have it available, but he will always
leave you at least 1 dollar in your account if you cannot fully repay
him at that time. |
