Installing the Marketplace 5 team software in LAN
Marketplace 5 software is designed to work within Novell Netware, Windows
NT, Windows 2000 and Linux/SAMBA networks. Installing the Marketplace
5 team software in the network (on a file server) enables the
students to use any computer connected to the network to work on their
decisions as opposed to being limited to only one machine. Please, be
aware that installing the Marketplace 5 software on the network requires
technical assistance of the person who is responsible for the network
administration on your site.
Note:
Each team will need their own copy of the software on the file server.
One installation of the Marketplace 5 software requires approximatelly
30 MB of disk space.
Follow these steps to install the Marketplace team software in
the network:
- On the file server, create a directory for every simulation game
you intend to start. For example, if you are going to have two games,
you will need to create locations for two groups (simulation game universes)
of teams:
- Create subdirectories for every team in particular game. The directory
structure in the case of 3 teams within the first game would look like
this:
- X:\MPGROUP1\MPTEAM1
- X:\MPGROUP1\MPTEAM2
- X:\MPGROUP1\MPTEAM3
- Create a network account with a password for every team and assign
full access rights to each team's own directory. Set each account so
that only one connection is allowed at any time.
- Download the Marketplace
Team software. This will download the install.exe file onto your
local computer. Execute the install.exe program for each team and choose
the particular team's directory when prompted for the destination directory
during the installation process. Or you may prefer to perform the installation
only once and then copy the whole installation to the folders for all
the other teams.
IMPORTANT: Choose the LOCAL option during the installation process
if the instructor on your site will be using the Local Instructor
software to facilitate the communication with Marketplace
processing center. Choose the INTERNET version if the instructor will
be using the EZ Instructor software to monitor students' work.
After completing the steps above, your students will be able to run the
team software and enter their business decisions from any computer within
your LAN. All they need to do is login as a particular team, change to
their directory on the file server and run the main program 'gwst.exe'.
To make accessing the Marketplace a bit easier for your students,
you can create a shortcut for gwst.exe in each team's directory and name
it 'run'. Then you can give each team simple instructions on how to login
and access the software.
Accessing the Marketplace software from the lab:
- Choose any available MS Windows based computer in the lab .... Turn
the PC on, or if it is already on, click the "Start" button in Windows
task bar and choose the "Shut Down" option. Select "Close all programs
and log on as a different user" and click "Yes".
- Wait for the login screen and type in your user name: and password:
- Click on the "Start" button again and choose "Run" option. Type in:
X:\MPGROUPYY.\MPTEAMXX\run and click "Ok" This will start up the Marketplace
software.
When you finish your work, exit the Marketplace program by choosing
the "Exit" option in main menu. Shut down Windows and turn the computer
off.
