Software versions and delivery options

What version to use: Marketplace 5 versus Web Marketplace

Web Marketplace is a fully web-based program. There is nothing to download or install. The software and all data reside on the remote servers. The simulation participants login to Web Marketplace via common Internet browsers. You DO need to be connected to the Internet the entire time you are working with Web Marketplace.

Marketplace 5 is a Windows-based program that needs to be installed on a local computer or a network server. Each team participating in a simulation needs to have a copy of this program. Marketplace 5 has a built-in Internet communication module that takes care of transferring data to and from the Processing Center.

When you use Marketplace 5, you only need to connect to the Internet when you transfer data to or from the Processing Center. Marketplace 5 can also be used on standalone computers that are not connected to network. Floppy disks can be used for data transfer.

Both Web Marketplace and Marketplace 5 use the same simulation model. The simulation scenarios that are available in both versions have the same complexity and decision content regardless of the version used.

When should you use Marketplace 5?

  • if you are in a country where the Internet access is charged on hourly basis and you do not want to be on-line for long periods of time

  • if you would like to use the simulation on standalone computers without network connection

Web Marketplace with Web Instructor

Web Marketplace is the ideal solution if you have a computer with Internet connection for each participant and for the instructor as well.

The software and the data reside on the remote servers in the Marketplace Processing Center. The players and the instructor use their passwords to access their data via the Internet browser. There is no need to download or install any software.

The Web Marketplace allows all the players within a team (one virtual company) to share their team decision data over the Internet.

The instructor can view the simulation results as well as monitor the progress of the teams. Since the decision files are stored on a remote server, the instructor can access the decisions in progress, even before they are finalized by the team at the end of the decision period.

Marketplace 5 with EZ Instructor

Choose this delivery option if the duration of time for which you are connected to the Internet is your concern.

Each team of students will need to download and install a copy of the team software. The instructor will need to download and install the EZ Instructor software. The team computers and also the instructor computer will need to have Internet connection. You will only need to be connected to the Internet at the time when you transfer the data to or from the Processing Center - typically once within each decision period.

The Marketplace 5 team software as well as the EZ Instructor software completely takes care of all the Internet transfers. It connects to the servers and transfers the data with a single click of a button.

Human vs. Computer-generated Competitors
