Marketplace in Gaza

The headlines read, Groundbreaking Program Brings Gazan Youth from Unemployment to First Paycheck, Marketplace was there. Here are excerpts of the story from the EFE Website.

Despite the ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East, the Education for Employment Foundation (EFE) recently announced that the first graduates of its inaugural Mini-MBA Accounting Training and Job-Placement Program have started work as accountants in the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Guinea. Bridging the gap between academia and the private sector, EFE is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that takes a practical business approach to reducing youth unemployment in the Middle East and Islamic World. It works with local business leaders and universities to identify educational shortfalls in market sectors with a need for trained workers.

EFE's innovative Mini-MBA Program was created in partnership with Consolidated Contractors Company (the largest engineering and construction company in the Middle East) and the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. The Mini-MBA is an eight-week intensive course designed to equip unemployed accounting graduates with the skills they desperately need to secure and retain jobs. Expert Smith School faculty trained professors from the Islamic University of Gaza, which hosts the program. In addition to accounting, finance, and business English, the Mini-MBA students were immersed in the Marketplace. The simulation-based portion of the curriculum put students in a real-life business scenario, enhancing practical skills in critical areas and preparing them for the global workplace.

Through targeted vocational training tied to real jobs, EFE aims to create a future for thousands of young people who are seeking to empower themselves through employment. In addition to Gaza, EFE operates programs in Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.
